Our handbook is here! “Lust auf Lokal – The Handbook for Community Journalism” follows the current trend of new local journalism ventures and aims to encourage more imitators. Pauline Tillmann and Tobias Hauswurz provide practical guidance on what it takes to start such a project and let the pioneers of the industry speak for themselves. The handbook is available in the CORRECTIV shop.
In a total of eight chapters, “Lust auf Lokal” answers many questions that media entrepreneurs ask – or should ask themselves: How can we involve the community in our reporting? How can we encourage people to financially support journalistic work? What does a diversified business model look like? And why is marketing so important for success? Tasks at the end of each chapter guide founders step by step toward achieving their goals and becoming successful in the medium and long term.In addition to the tasks in the book, an exclusive toolkit is available for download, containing the most important frameworks, canvases, and Excel templates to help plan the launch of a new media outlet.
The handbook also includes numerous tips and examples from direct practice. For instance, readers learn why the crowdfunding campaign of VierNull was so successful, how the business model of Bürgerportal Bergisch Gladbach works, and how tsüri.ch organizes membership campaigns. Additional tips and best-practice examples come from Bajour, Bristol Cable, CORRECTIV.Lokal, Krautreporter, MedWatch, My Country Talks, Neue Narrative, Perspective Daily, The Pioneer, Relevanzreporter, Republik, and RUMS.
Most of the best-practice examples were collected in collaboration with our community – at meetups and through ongoing exchanges. We continue this work, which means the handbook can keep growing over time.
“Lust auf Lokal” was published by CORRECTIV Verlag and costs €15. You can order it here:
